As Peter Sells says in his talk, there are only two ways a caveman could know about sabre-toothed tigers: either he experienced one for himself, or someone told him about them. If you were there to experience TEDxNewSt, I’m sure you’d agree that it was jam-packed full of sabre-toothed ideas. But if you weren’t there (and pre-registration was so over-subscribed, that applies to many) then we’ve captured its full story here for you to share. Through the day we experienced a diversity of subjects and styles of presentation such as might have been experienced at the early 19th Century gatherings of Faraday, Turner and Keats that Mark Davy described.
From the intellectual depth of Tim Ambler, to the wonderful entertainment of Randolph Matthews, to the uplifting inspiration of Jeremy Gilley, there’s no better way to connect them than to use Thomas Power’s words: Open, Random, Supportive. To get the full impact of TEDxNewSt I recommend you watch each of these films in the order in which they took place on the day – that way you’ll get to see what Sarah Morning so eloquently calls the Long Idea, unfold.

About TEDx
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a programme called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
Our event is called TEDxNewSt, where x = independently organised TED event. At our TEDxNewSt event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organised.
